Work Of Art: Lift

Dragon Boats

Can you hear the dragon boats rowing out to sea?
Banging on their ancient drums coming after me
Hidden by the morning fog on the bank I stood
Where I met a fisherman who told me life was good

He asked "What brings you to this pass, you're Excellency?
Did you come for inspiration for your poetry?"
I told him "I came here to jump and hold on to this stone
Sink down to the ocean floor where I will lie alone"

As the thunder from the drums slowly fades away
And the bubbles rise I saw love in his eyes

People said I didn't have any more to give
After war had claimed my land I didn't care to live
But if they read my poetry in between the lines
I write about a broken heart at least a thousand times

I can see her long black veil and I hear her mournful cry
As the bubbles rise I saw love in her eyes

The fisherman screamed for help as he rowed to shore
But in that chilly wilderness I was seen no more
The people ran down to the boat and said "This can not be"
They started banging on the drums, said "Take us out to see"

As the thunder from the drums slowly fades away
And the bubbles rise I saw love in their eyes
